About Us
Jim Carlson, registered pharmacist, began in the hearing instrument field in Boone in 1973, and was a member of the first group of hearing instrument specialists to be licensed by the Iowa Department of Public Health in 1975.
Hearing assistance technology has changed vastly since the 1970's, and Jim has been a part of each new advancement that has been introduced year after year.
Today's practice is highly computer-oriented, requiring continual updates to both hardware and software to be able to program and adjust the many choices in 100% digital circuitry now available from multiple manufacturers. You may be amazed by the capabilities of 21st century hearing aids, most of which are performed automatically, without any adjustments by the wearer.

Jim Carlson, R.Ph., Licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist
Jim Carlson grew up near Stratford Iowa, and became a registered pharmacist in 1972, following graduation from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. He became involved with hearing aids in 1973 while employed at Herrald Drug Company, and apprenticed under the experienced and watchful eye of fellow-pharmacist Wes Herrald. Jim continued at this pharmacy until 1998, when he closed that location and moved the hearing aid practice with him to the new, more conveniently-located Medicap Pharmacy building at 403 Story Street.
With 35 years of experience in helping the hearing impaired of Boone and surrounding communities, you can be assured of honest, knowledgeable answers to your questions, and you'll appreciate the "no pressure" atmosphere if you're wondering if you might benefit from hearing assistance.
